Argentina is now the world’s fifth biggest wine producer and has grown significantly in stature. Until recently the wine community in Argentina had little aspirations to export as the domestic market was their primary focus.
The principal wine growing area is Mendoza which is North West of Buenos Aires and fifty minutes by aeroplane from Santiago, the Chilean capital. The Bodega’s vineyards are at Lujan de Cuyo which is 15 km south of the city of Mendoza.
Most of the vineyards are located between 350 and 2100 metres above sea level and it is the country with more vineyards at high altitude than anywhere else in the world. This altitude is an element that favours the slow ripening of the fruits due to the rise in thermal amplitude.
